Connecting Experience. Strengthening Communities.

Southeast Iowa RSVP connects adults age 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities that strengthen our communities, support our neighbors, and allow volunteers to use a lifetime of skills, experience, and compassion in service to others.

Our story began on June 30, 1989, when Henry County RSVP was established at Henry County Health Center. For more than three decades, RSVP volunteers have been an important part of our community, helping neighbors remain independent, supporting local organizations, addressing community needs, and building relationships that make Southeast Iowa stronger.

In 2014, Henry County RSVP moved to The Fellowship Cup, a community-based nonprofit organization in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Under The Fellowship Cup, RSVP continued to grow its partnerships and expand the ways older adults could serve throughout the community.

In 2026, that story entered an exciting new chapter. Henry County RSVP became Southeast Iowa RSVP, expanding its service area to include Henry, Des Moines, and Louisa Counties. While our name and geographic reach have grown, the heart of our program remains the same: connecting people who want to serve with meaningful opportunities to make a difference.

There are various classroom decorations and organizational items, including a wall clock, a small shelf with green trays, and posters with motivational words like 'Practice Responsibility' and 'Respect and Safety' on the wall.

What We Do

Southeast Iowa RSVP works alongside nonprofit organizations, healthcare providers, schools, food assistance programs, and other community partners to identify local needs and develop volunteer opportunities that make a measurable difference.

Our volunteers serve in a variety of ways, including:

  • Providing medical transportation and helping older adults access essential healthcare services in Henry and Louisa Counties

  • Supporting food pantries, food distribution programs, and home-delivered meal programs

  • Helping children through reading, mentoring, and intergenerational programs such as Pen Pals and Reading Buddies

  • Serving in hospitals and healthcare settings

  • Supporting programs that help older adults remain connected, independent, and engaged in their communities

  • Assisting nonprofit and community organizations with volunteer support and other locally identified needs

Because every community is different, our work continues to evolve. We listen to our community partners, volunteers, and neighbors to identify where volunteers can have the greatest impact.

More Than Volunteering

RSVP is about more than filling volunteer positions. It is about relationships, purpose, and community.

Our volunteers bring decades of knowledge, professional experience, talents, and life experience to their service. Some volunteer a few hours each month. Others serve every week. Some discover an opportunity that uses skills they have spent a lifetime developing, while others try something entirely new.

Whatever the role, every volunteer brings something valuable.

Through service, RSVP volunteers help meet important community needs while staying active, connected, and engaged. The result is stronger organizations, communities, and meaningful connections between people who might otherwise never have met.

Part of AmeriCorps Seniors

Southeast Iowa RSVP is an AmeriCorps Seniors program sponsored locally by The Fellowship Cup.

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP is one of the nation's largest volunteer networks for adults age 55 and older. Through RSVP, volunteers choose how, where, and how often they want to serve, so each person can find opportunities that fit their interests, abilities, experience, and schedule.

From our beginnings as Henry County RSVP in 1989 to today's Southeast Iowa RSVP, one thing has remained constant:

Our communities are stronger when people share their time, talents, and experience with one another.
